How to position your brand as a pioneer

Pioneers don’t look for answers, but for possibilities.

With their bold visions of a brighter future, they strive to create movements that change what it means to be human, that make us stop and think, that spark evolution and create revolution.

Steve Jobs did it with the smartphone and Karl Benz with the car. Yvon Chouinard put the planet first with Patagonia, and Sir Tim Berners-Lee gave us the World Wide Web.

But what can we learn from these great innovators and how can we put these lessons into practice?

Not all revolutions are pretty

The outlaws, the dirtbags, the lawless.

Pioneers aren’t always met with celebrations and champagne. Valley Uprising documents a group of mavericks from Yosemite, California, who together sparked a climbing revolution across the world. This is the story of characters on the fringes of society as they battle lawmakers and attempt to keep their passions alive.

Watch out for Yvon Chouinard, he founded Patagonia off the back of years of climbing in Yosemite and his experiences in the natural world were foundational in his business-for-good mentality.

A Tool For Thought

When we think of the pioneers, we see highly creative, experimental and free-thinking folks. Those who are not normally suited to excel spreadsheets and straight-lined notebooks. Queue Figjam.

We’ve taken to holding many of our workshops, branding sessions and design meetings through Figjam because it gives ideas the space to breathe. Think of it as a digital whiteboard, a place to draw, stick, sketch and pin everything that’s on your mind.
